Palin and “Poupon”

Oh, such a big day. In Juneau. Really? Five years later? Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s emails. We know that  Todd, the First Dude, was very involved. Frank Bailey has “told-all” already in a book. We might find out a lot about negotiations for a natural gas pipeline, a proposal which has since gone South.

The real story, IMHO, is that she had to be compelled to release the emails. Oh, it’s just that big ‘ole bad mainstream media looking for scuttlebutt, right?  Um. No. Public officials, public documents. No secret Yahoo accounts. Duh. But that’s pretty old news.

In the context of other political emails and tweets we’ve been following with Mr. “Grey Poupon” Weiner, Sarah’s emails will be tame, I suspect.  And since I appear to be commenting on things national from my “listening post” in Vermont, check out the New York Times article this morning about “Sexting” between consenting adults. I’m kinda’ with this viewpoint. I don’t really care how two (or more) adults choose to flirt and titillate eachother. It’s, frankly, none of my business.  Have fun. For God’s sake, whatever!  Have at it!  Life is short. If a man, or woman, wants to be a virtual cheater on their spouse, still, not my business. You make your own bed, so to speak.

BUT, Here’s the deal: If  you’re a politician (and why can’t any of these powerful guys EVER figure this out?!)  DON’T DENY, equivocate and LIE  about your public and private life to your constituents.  That will kill your political career. Just say, “Hey, I like sending around boring pic’s of my waxed chest sitting in front of my computer in my ugly gray boxer shorts…”  And then we yawn, hope he figures it all out with his wife and move on despite headlines like “Huma Humiliated” or  “Why Weiner?” Dude can still represent us and legislate because he was honest from the get-go about being human. “Sext”r or not, this Dude (as opposed to the aforementioned First Dude)  might be a really important policy-maker.  I won’t name names, of the political prowlers, but you can start the list any time now… on both sides of the aisle.

Back to Sarah. Hope we don’t find anything criminal there. Would so enjoy seeing her in her next show “Wives of Wasilla.”

(Email release at 1pm eastern time. Watch the frenzy somewhere if you must. Make no mistake that the release is made today, on a Friday, since we’re all expected to yawn and get right back into our summer weekend plans.)

Postscript: Unbelievable: The New York Times is asking readers to read the Palin emails for them. As one commentor on the NYT website wrote: “Isn’t this what reporters get paid to do?”
