A belated “Happy Birthday” to “Happy” Rockefeller said to have been gracing Woodstock in recent days. This Mrs. Rockefeller, as you may remember, is the widow of the former Vice-President of the United States and former Governor of New York, Nelson Rockefeller. Perhaps she was in town for certain Dartmouth-related events this past weekend including the visit by the former President of the United States, George H.W. Bush.
Nelson, brother of Woodstock’s own Laurance, went to Dartmouth as did Mary French Rockefeller’s brother, John.
In any case, we’re always pleased to be able to put out the welcome mat for our own Woodstock, Vermont version of visiting royalty!
P.S. I wonder if Mrs. Rockefeller remembers our meeting in Leysin, Switzerland in 1968? I was the precocious child in blonde braids who chatted her up during her ski vacation and was subsequently invited to her apartment for a look-see. Thanks, Happy, that was very fun!

Next time we’ll get a “heads-up” so we can design our hats properly. Maybe the Duchess of Cambridge aka Kate and William will stop in during their U.S. visit. We’ll be ready next time…

I do remember that precocious child in blond braids–I was chatted up for the first time in 1963! Didn’t realize that you and Happy Rockefeller had that connection–or that she was still alive for that matter!
