Boots Off: Appalachian Trail Hiker is Early Bird of the Day!

Boots Off: Ryan from Connecticut waits for the bus in Woodstock

The Appalachian Trail is about 2,181 miles long stretching from Georgia to Maine. It meanders through Vermont passing within about four miles of Woodstock.

Nursing some blisters and a cold and clutching a roll of toilet paper (for the cold we presume)  after a wet few days on the trail, we found Ryan from Connecticut waiting for the bus outside People’s Bank this morning.

He says Vermont Transit doesn’t normally stop here but you can call ahead to get it to stop as it’s going on to White River Junction. He was expecting a pick-up around 7am. Good to know!

I met Ryan yesterday while working at the Woodstock CC Information Booth on The Green.
FYI: Vermont Transit Line is no longer in operation. It was taken over by Greyhound in 2008. Although Vermont Transit had a Rutland to White River Junction route, the bus had not stopped in Woodstock during the last few years of its run. Today, Greyhound does not appear to have a Rutland to White River Junction run.

However, the Marble Valley Regional Transit District (802 773-3244 – Ext. 117) operates “The Bus” based in Rutland, VT and may contract with local human services agencies to provide bus/van transportation from Rutland, VT to Upper Valley locations and may provide pick-ups in Woodstock based on space availability with requests made thru the Dispatcher at Marble Valley Regional Transit.
