Woodstock firefighters have put out a house fire at 77 Hartland Hill Road this afternoon. Hartland Hill resident and neighbor Adam Jenks first detected the fire around 2:45pm and called 911. Firefighters dressed in heavy gear and breathing air tanks are still on-scene in the mid-to-high 80’s heat monitoring the situation as smoke drifts out of the building. However, the flames have been put down and the building still stands.
Woodstock Fire Chief L.D. Sutherland, Jr. is on scene and reports the fire started in a closet that contained a hot water heater. Jenks said he detected the smell of electrical burning from the building as he returned from a walk and heard dogs outside barking wildly. Ambulance squads were also on scene to assist firefighters and Woodstock Police were directing traffic at the corner next to Maplefield’s. The fire was just slightly up the hill, about a quarter mile on the right, from the 90 degree turn.
