Police Report High Street Car Thefts

Woodstock Police say at least three cars were broken into on High Street in the Village last night. Owners of the vehicles came out of  their homes this morning  to find electronics , wallets, cash, and some medications  missing.  No damage was reported to the vehicles.

Woodstock Police Chief Robbie Blish says  all the car  owners reported  they had left their doors unlocked. As a result of this incident,  Blish reminds Village residents  to lock their cars to help prevent what he calls   “A crime of opportunity.”

Police do not have a suspect for the thefts and it’s only known that they occurred during the overnight hours. Blish says  a police  officer may have had contact with an individual related to the break-ins. However, he  says the  case is still under investigation.

One break-in theft victim had a wallet, medication and a library book stolen  from their  car. The prescription bottle was returned to a Woodstock  pharmacy this morning by someone who had found it empty on the Village Green. The victim learned — after reporting it stolen –  that the library book has been returned to the library.

It’s not known if the thief or thieves have a higher respect (or fear) of librarians than of  law enforcement and returned the book or if a Good Samaritan  found the book on the Green and placed it in  the drop-in bin.
