Police Report High Street Car Thefts

Woodstock Police say at least three cars were broken into on High Street in the Village last night. Owners of the vehicles came out of  their homes this morning  to find electronics , wallets, cash, and some medications  missing.  No damage was reported to the vehicles.

Woodstock Police Chief Robbie Blish says  all the car  owners reported  they had left their doors unlocked. As a result of this incident,  Blish reminds Village residents  to lock their cars to help prevent what he calls   “A crime of opportunity.”

Police do not have a suspect for the thefts and it’s only known that they occurred during the overnight hours. Blish says  a police  officer may have had contact with an individual related to the break-ins. However, he  says the  case is still under investigation.

One break-in theft victim had a wallet, medication and a library book stolen  from their  car. The prescription bottle was returned to a Woodstock  pharmacy this morning by someone who had found it empty on the Village Green. The victim learned — after reporting it stolen –  that the library book has been returned to the library.

It’s not known if the thief or thieves have a higher respect (or fear) of librarians than of  law enforcement and returned the book or if a Good Samaritan  found the book on the Green and placed it in  the drop-in bin.

For what it’s worth, I was awakened by loud talking last night. I figured it was let out of the bars but I looked at the clock and it was 3:12am. I would guess now that it was probably our thieves…Steve

      Interesting,
I live out east on Rt 4 past the liquor store and heard loud talking and laughter early in the am today which is the first time this has happened. It sounded as if two or three young males were walking along Rt 4. I was dozing on and off and didn’t get up to investigate. Can’t really say which direction they were going. I do think that this was closer to 1pm or 1:30am because I went to bed around 12:45am.

…I should have noted that the talking I heard last night at 3:12am was on High St. a few doors up from Rt.4…

Thanks y’all for the info! Good neighborhood watch program — It might help narrow down the “perps”. I’m also hearing one vehicle not brokein into did have fingerprints all over it.
