About Bacon…And Service

Featured in this photo is Ultra-Marathoner Christopher holding his bacon

Since many of us in Woodstock work in the hospitality and tourism business we all know the trials and tribulations of serving the public. Customer service can be a very fine art. Sometimes we get it wrong. We hear about it. Boy, do we hear about it.  Complaints are a dime a dozen, aren’t they?  How often do we get thanked for the extra effort of doing something right? Yes, it’s true, right is right and why give thanks?  So, it is a rare thing to get an old-fashioned, really appreciative  thank-you note. It makes a difference. And, Woodstock Early Birds across the land  love it.

So, the next time you get a very odd  or difficult request and privately  roll your eyes, take a deep breath and think BACON!

Imagine how wonderful BACON  smells wafting through the air, how delicious it tastes and how wonderful it is to help make someone’s day.  No matter how off the wall. No matter where you are or what you are doing.

Herewith, text provided by the Kedron Valley Inn in South Woodstock which recently got it right AND  was thanked for it:

 Topic: Bacon

To Your Saturday Staff,

I am writing to again thank your team for its kindness.

On the evening of Saturday, July 16th, I came literally running into your establishment with the totally ridiculous request for an order of bacon to-go! It was for my son, Christopher, who was running in the VERMONT 100 ULTRA-MARATHON. He’d developed an insatiable craving for bacon after running 62 miles. And although I thought he was crazy to try running 100 miles, as his devoted Dad, I was doing my best to help him.

Your staff wonderfully took pity upon me and provided me with slices of the best smelling bacon that I can recall. With my son’s fortitude replenished, he was amazingly able to finish the full 100 miles by about 7:00 Sunday morning. We would have tried coming to the Kedron Inn for breakfast but truly he didn’t smell good at all.  Immediately after he did bathe, he fell into a deep sleep or we certainly would have come by.

I did want you to know that your kindness really did contribute to his success and if we ever are able to make it back to Vermont, your Inn will be our first destination!

Thank you for your kindness, help and bacon!

Sincerely,

Mark Good
