Editor’s Update: I asked Town Manager Phil Swanson for a bit more specifics on how to figure out how much in taxes we might individually owe. He responded with the explanation and example below.
That’s right folks, you read it correctly: LOWER.
Your Village Tax Rate will be slightly lower for 2011-2012 than it was for 2010-2011. Woodstock Village Trustees approved the rate at their meeting Tuesday night. A change from .185 to .176.
We know, not a big change, but lower is lower! Grand list has increased, according to Town Manager Phil Swanson, indicating what he termed “good growth.”
Tax rate for Village services, paid only by village property owners is
0.1761
The rate is per 100 dollars of valuation.
For example
A $200,000. house
Take $200,000. divide by 100
This yields 2000
Tax bill for village services is 2000 multiply by the tax rate of .1761
for a village tax of $352.20
The tax rate is set by dividing the amount of money to operate village
services by the grand list
Grand list is the total value of all real estate in the village
( divided by 100 )
Grand List is 2,681,864.
