For those of you Village residents intensely interested in architectural decision-making, you might enjoy another meeting this evening of the Woodstock Village Development Review Board. It begins at 7:30pm at the Town Hall.
On the agenda again is the Adam Abramson request for a permit to construct a dormer on the applicant’s historic Elm Street home. As Woodstock Early Bird has reported, there is a strong feeling among experts that the integrity of this Greek Revival Style home must be maintained. However, others on this Board have expressed their view that the dormer would not be a serious enough change to the side of the home as to keep its owners from making changes to their property.
We could be surprised and hear that this “dormer drama” will end well. However, indications are that we are documenting a dormer death…
Will the Development Review Board give a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down to this project? What will it mean for future design requests?
Meantime, Woodstock Early Bird notices a recent permit quietly issued for a local resident’s building to be placed along a scenic ridgeline. Is this an issue Vermonters and Woodstock citizens still care about? While we decry the possible presence of an “ugly ear” on the side of a building, what about the fine lines of our hilltops being subject to more erratic and possibly appalling appendages?
