Dormer D’Ear Dead

Not unexpectedly, a permit request to construct a dormer on a historic Elm Street home was unanimously turned down Wednesday evening by the Woodstock Village Development Review Board.

The dormer request came from the Abramson family who owns the white-pillared Greek Revival Style home on Elm Street. The family is making changes to the interior and, with assistance from local architect Hank Savelberg, proposed bring out out the third floor roof with a window dormer that would sit between two chimneys on the side of the building.

The Design Review Board adamantly recommended twice against the construction project and the Village Development Review Board closed public testimony at their last meeting but delayed a final decision until Wednesday night.

There is an appeal period of the Board’s decision.

Members of the Design Review Board stated they would not be able to sleep if the distinctive building were to be sullied by the construction project. There were two members of the Development Review Board who initially hesitated in going with the thumbs-down vote, but they voted with the majority on Wednesday night.
