The Woodstock Conservation Committee and the Woodstock Town Development Committee recently okay’d a scenic ridgeline permit request after a site visit to property owned by Ned Macksoud at 572 Grove Hill Road.
Joyce Macksoud-Dann, with Ned Macksoud as co-applicant, is hoping to relocate a 17-foot high barn to a tree’d area of the property between Carleton Hill and Peterkin Hill Roads and turn it into a residence.
During their site visit, the Conservation Commission noted the building is not that tall and the 65 foot trees in the area surrounding will keep the barn from view by anyone travelling on nearby roads.
Part of Town of Woodstock Scenic Ridgeline District regulations are that the building cannot be visible to neighbors or passersby, which the committee determined will be the case.
The approved permit in a scenic ridgeline is simply for re-location of the barn. Other permits will be required as the building is re-done.
From zoning language: SCENIC RIDGELINE DISTRICT: This shall consist of all lands within 500 horizontal feet of lines depicting the primary ridges in the Town of Woodstock, as specifically set forth on the Scenic Ridgeline District Overlay Map on file in the Planning and Zoning Office.
In addition to Town Planner Michael Brands, the very-helpful and informed Assistant Zoning Administrator Renee Vondle is more than happy to pull out maps and regulations to help citizens understand how these decisions are made.
