Rainy Days and Mondays…

Ahh yes, was it the Carpenters who sang that song? Rainy Days and Mondays? I hope you’re having a lovely Monday. Woodstock Early Bird, back from a trip to Maine, is enjoying the cool downpour and  the return of her laptop. Also, planning and prepping psychologically for the preparation of a homemade blueberry pie crust…I’m going with the half butter, half CRISCO model. Chilled, of course. Sampling blueberries while I ” consider”  the project.  Nonetheless, a cool rainy day means you can get your oven going without fear of passing out.

For any other bloggers out there, you might be interested to know that WordPress is still working to optimize the blogging experience on the Ipad2. Yes, it’s true Early Bird did enjoy the wine sampling at the Taste of Woodstock and that MAY have caused some upload errors,  but Bird was not helped by  compatibility issues between a blogging template provider and whiz-bang Apple technology.  No, I am NOT  getting into THAT discussion. For now.

Speaking of ” Taste of Woodstock”, I did write a whole blog item on this a few days ago, but alas, it disappeared. So, now, a mention that it was a really nice effort and fun to meet and greet everyone on a lovely, warm-ish day. Particularly enjoyed hearing local band “The Current Flash” despite some technicals there.

A  note on technicals: That’s generally why one should have a built-in half hour prep time for ANY  technical operation anywhere — Bands, Powerpoints, Interactive teleconferences, Stage Shows, Business meetings.  Anyone out there ever been delayed or had their time wasted by the always befuddled question: “Uh, well, looks like it’s not working!….Hold on a minute…Okay, maybe it’s this button?”

“Taste of Woodstock”  Woodstock Early Bird hears some chirping that all is not well in the nest.

Woodstock downtown businesses who sell clothing and jewelry were not particularly appreciative of seeing vendors —  brought in by their very own Woodstock Chamber of Commerce — selling their notably non-member wares at various booths. It does seem a reasonable point of view that i f it’s supposed to be a food-oriented TASTE event meant  to bring people downtown so they might also buy  clothing and jewelry from local stores during a sidewalk sale, then inviting or allowing outside salespeople seems to defeat the whole purpose. We hear that some otherwise hard-working organizers  may soon  be getting an earful. If nothing else, it is something to consider in the future.

Welcome Center Dumpster

Now, on to other related items…We see that the Woodstock Welcome Center got a new dumpster unceremoniously dumped sideways to the building.  I suspect this was/is a great idea to take care of extra garbage generated during Taste of Woodstock.

BTW, The Mountain Creamery has done much to improve the Welcome Center alleyway by hanging beautiful flower boxes out of  their windows and maintaining them.

Thanks for the tip. But, it’s all “bad, bad, bad” really. Yes? I was raised with the ALL Crisco model so am actually trying a change. Healthier. Blueberry pies bring joy and that’s a healthy thing. 🙂

I would be curious to know how many negative comments you heard from local Woodstock businesses? And I am sure the many positive comments (that I heard) would heavily outweigh any negative comments “chirped” regarding a wonderful and successful community event like the Taste of Woodstock. It seems ridiculous to stir up the pot with negativity regarding an event such as this. And from a personal standpoint, I for one am tired of this type of blog and/ or negative journalism. It is an example of what is wrong with news reporting today! Always looking for the negative!

Wow. You make comments like “woodstock businesses that sell clothing and jewelery were not particularly appreciative of seeing vendors” without any mention of WHO.
Being a business manager downtown, Bentleys Restaurant, we have seen a significant increase in foot traffic and business as a result of The Taste of Woodstock. This with the increase of
“out of chamber” food vendors. I saw a lot of our local business members during the day and so many were impressed with the turnout as well as increased volume in sales had the event not taken place.

It is my opinion that the event brings way more positive than negative. This is our third year of the event and it gets better each year.

    Andrew,

I appreciate your comment as well as the others and appreciate the thoughts on Taste of Woodstock. Let me be clear, personally Woodstock Early Bird enjoys and supports the event fully. However, there should be room for discussion on how it might be made better. That is something the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce and its members might discuss. Those who have mentioned discontent are sources who may make themselves known to the membership if they choose to.
