Levon Helm Performs in Woodstock, VERMONT on Friday

It’s hard sometimes to help those who don’t know great names in history.
Levon Helm. Rolling Stone Magazine has named him one of the top 100 singers of all time.
But the other morning, Woodstock Early Bird was hanging out with Mon Vert Cafe’s Laura and chatting with Woodstock historian Corwin Sharp. Corwin was talking about “Levon” coming to town.

For a certain generation, Levon is inseparable from all that was rock-n-roll, the Sixties, the Seventies, the anti-war effort, feminism, environmentalism and on it goes. As in Woodstock: THE Concert. Woodstock, New York that is where Helm played with The Band.

Corwin Sharp smiles with the patience of a historian who will soon get to share the knowledge of the ages. He can’t believe that anyone does not know about Levon Helm. Or The Band.
Corwin Sharp, of Woodstock, Vermont lived in Woodstock, New York in the Sixties. Corwin explains to these two apparent pop-culture outcasts about this group of guys from Canada, this drummer/musician from the South (Arkansas, Nashville) and the incredible music they made. That would be The Band. Bob Dylan and The Band.
Early Bird and Laura perk up. Bob Dylan? We know him.
How about Robbie Robertson? Glimmer of hope here. He played with The Band. And Levon Helm.
Let’s just finish this up right now. You get the picture. Levon Helm is a rock-n-roll icon.
Woodstock Early Bird, who was oh-so-young back then, spoke to several people other than eminent music historian Corwin Sharp who also KNOW who this musician is and they say he is a must-hear. For historical reasons alone. To educate the un-informed. For the pure joy and rock-n-roll deal of it. Drums, vocals, mandolin.
Levon Helm and his Midnight Ramble band are coming to play Woodstock, Vermont in a concert at Suicide Six Friday night, the 26th. . Tickets are available at the Town Hall from the Pentangle Arts Council or by buying them online. Not inexpensive, ranging from $32 to $53, approximately, depending on what level of participation you desire (there’s apparently a BBQ available for a price, etc.)
Anyhoo, Early Birds, we are now partially educated. We will now go listen to some of the old songs. We all know them. Oh…that’s Levon Helm.

I saw Dylan with The Band in early 70’s. Amazing concert and boy do I remember playing Music from Big Pink over and over again. Can’t believe Levon will play in Woodstock and I can’t wait to hear him again !

Gareth and I saw him live in Concert in Burlington. It was awesome. It was the one thing we were most bummed about missing when we moved. Also Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck is opening for him. That connection is well established with Helm and Thayer.
