A Simpler Forecast, A Simpler Recipe

Good Morning Early Birds,

The Vermont Emergency Management Agency recommends stowing your projectiles ahead of our incoming tropical storm. A good idea. I have just stowed mine.

Storm is now “scheduled” to be in its prime of driving rain and high wind mode from approximately 7am Sunday morning through about 2am Monday morning. We are to expect flying limbs and power outages. Also flooding.

The National Weather Service Burlington in Burlington, Vermont has issued such a pretty graphic this morning. We thought we’d share it with you:

BTW, as we see the storm forecast getting a bit simpler, and our specific area not to be hit quite as severely, we also consider the fact that we need a simpler “Hurricane” cocktail recipe. I mean, really, even though we want to show up those Key Wester’s, frankly we aren’t in the islands, so aren’t going to run out for passion fruit juice (do we like it anyway?)  and spend the afternoon making simple syrup. Not when we’re busy stowing our projectiles. So,  a simpler recipe from our Woodstock Early Bird  Laura at Mon Vert Cafe…something she enjoys sharing (after hours, of course!)  with Chef Cameron, the best salad maker in Woodstock:

Simple Rum Punch

1 shot or so of dark rum

1 shot or so of light rum

A can of Dole pineapple/orange juice (OR  some oj/pineapple combo of juices easily found at Mac’s)

A splash or so of cranberry juice

Squeeze of lime

Ice and limes to garnish.

Umbrella straw optional

There, that’s better. Enjoy.

Take care.

P.S. As long as we have power and/or cell phone coverage, Early Bird will keep you abreast (like a Robin’s breast) of the changing situation. If you have a power outage or hear/see a tree down anywhere let us know: EARLYBIRDTIPS@yahoo.com
