A Woodstock Bird tipster reported the news awhile ago that the Quechee Covered Bridge was washed out by the flood swollen Ottauquechee River.
This video (not WEB’s) at Youtube gives pretty dramatic evidence to what happened:

Alas, Woodstock Early Bird is not set up to post actual video. But check it out. Amazing, we’d say.

Pray that the Taftsville bridge is still standing. We all love that bridge! As for Fox Hollow, we tried to drive over that way. Lakeland is very flooded. Stood at the Quechee club this evening and the water is almost up to the pool. Does not seem likely that Fox Hollow would not feel some impact. Good luck.

I can’t believe what I saw; the covered bridge is right next to the Simon Pearce Pottery and Restaurant which actually hangs out over the river.

Some of Quechee does not and has not all day, so if you have alternative contact methods, you might use them.

Quechee covered bridge was still standing as of 11:00 pm Sunday night. An emergency worker who was blocking off the road at the site said it was still standing, but the road was washed out on both sides of the bridge. The emporium building was still standing, too, but one of the lowest exterior walls (at the lowest terrace) was washed out.

We are so sorry to all who have lost their homes, livelihood, and suffered severe and catastrophic property damage ..what a beautiful part of the country, devastating to hear these iconic bridges and historic places are being destroyed by the flooding.

Nancy,
I don’t know where your boyfriend is. However, your report is NOT TRUE. Woodstock, the Village, is NOT AN ISLAND. We are very, very fortunate to have access OUT to Interstate 89 and Interstate 91 to Points South and East. In fact, yesterday I was able to go over to New Hampshire to stock up on some drinking water and other supplies. I hope that if your boyfriend IS stranded that he will let Emergency Services know and start a process to get him assistance.
