The Woodstock Fire Department was called out this evening to Golf Street Extension after neighbors saw strange smoke — with a detectable strange smell – coming out of the chimney of house behind theirs.
Fire fighters entered the building — which is the second home of an out-of-town owner — to find a fully flooded basement (the Kedron Brook had risen over its banks on Maple Street and beyond Sunday). At the same time a furnace was apparently running, switched on somehow and creating the smoke and electrical smell.
Without further incident the fire fighters turned off the furnace and left the building.

Julia … I’d like to share photos that others have been sending to us from around the state as well as here in Woodstock. Is there a way to send them to you? or to upload here?

Jeanne, I do not have the blog set-up to upload other’s photos. I do believe there is a community Facebook page called Vermont Irene 2011 — something like that where you could post them. I think there is a comment from someone on this page in the last 48 hours that I will try to find for you.
I’m interested in keeping this blog quite local with news photos and information about OUR little valley. If there are some links to your photos (or others) I would be happy to post those here for others to check out elsewhere.
