Good Morning Early Birds,
From Police Chief Robbie Blish only moments ago.
1. WATER: Water is out in the Village and beyond. When will it be back on? Here’s the deal: Assessment. That means figuring out where the water main broke. Water people (I don’t know what we call them) have to find out where the water went bust, so to speak, before they can even attempt to fix it. So. We are without water for awhile.
2. ROADS:
a. Route 4 East to West Lebanon — YES A-Okay. However, if you’re running to West Lebanon for STUFF (and WATER!) be aware that some of the “Miracle Mile” (aka “Valley of the Damned) stores were flooded also by the Connecticut River.
b. Route 12 to Woodstock from Barnard — Very, very iffy. Touch and Go. Not recommended. State Police shake their head NO but can be done. Carefully.
c. North Road to Bethel Bridge — NO Bridge Out
d.Route 4 West to Bridgewater, Killington and Rutland. NO. Route 4 washed out all along and in Mendon, too. In fact right now police in Woodstock are turning people around as they head West on Route 4
e. Route 106. No official reports yet.
3. Village. Flooding r has gone down everywhere. You can get around.
That’s it for now. It a beautiful clear sunny day for Woodstock Early Bird’s mop-up operations. And there are many sump pumps getting to work right now.
NOTE: Woodstock Early Bird’s cell phone/camera is soaked and not functioning so transmissions may be limited. IPAD2 also couldn’t take the traffic use.

i was suppose to fly home to barnard yesterday it is good the fllight was canceled.
i wish you all the best though and if anyone can handle adversity it is a vermonter

For those on town water, I would turn off your main shut-off valve located inside where your service enters the house. This will avoid possible contamination if our public water quality has been compromised. You may be able to get some potable water left in the house pipes by opening a faucet at a higher level, like the 2nd floor and then a faucet or outside spigot at a lower level, (with a container to catch it). The hot water tank also has a drain valve that you should be able to drain some water from your tank, just don’t drain it all the way and don’t burn yourself. If you have a friend nearby with a well, even better. I am going to check the spring on Golf Ave to see how it looks. If it is clear, it would still have to be boiled. If you are nearby a stream or non-potable water source, you can get a bucket of muddy water to flush you’re toilet- just dump about a gallon in quickly and you will get a good flush.

Checked the spring, it is running clear and cold. You will find it on Golf Ave, go straight past where Golf intersects with Maple and you will see a pull off on the right where the road turns to dirt. There is a stone wall with a bronze plaque that says Dreer Spring- it is a public spring. Bring your containers, make sure you boil it.

106 is down to one lane in one spot (one side of the road has fallen in the river, but they have it marked off with cones and the other side is fine), but otherwise passable from Morgan Hill Road (just past the Kedron Valley Inn) to downtown Woodstock. Thank you Chief Blish for the best compilation of damage reports I have yet seen…

Just to clear up any misconceptions, “Miracle Mile” is not 12A with the stores that had some flooding from the CT river. “Miracle Mile is from Gerrish Honda to Flanders Ford area. There is a small Price Chopper there and it is easy to get to.
So sorry to see all of the destruction in Woodstock. We lived there for 5 years and the area is a special place.
