The Vermont Standard Building Destroyed…Paper Will Be Published This Week

The Vermont Standard weekly newspaper building in West Woodstock was destroyed by Irene floodwaters from the Ottauquechee River.

Publisher Phil Camp was on the scene today as workers tried to salvage computers and data disks although water completely went through the building. Camp says the building is a loss but…the paper has published continuous for over 150 years …and the community can expect its weekly newspaper this week, too!

The Vermont Standard was just one of the major businesses whose buildings were taken down by the water. The Woodstock Farmer’s Market was flooded, the Dead River Gas and Appliance Store demolished and the White Cottage gutted.

This part of Route 4 and heading West is closed off to all but local traffic.
