Update as of 9am: Officially Rt. 106 has been completely closed by VTrans as a section of flood-beaten road worsens. An Early Bird in South Woodstock reports that while the road was/is passable yesterday and today, the situation HAS worsened. For safety, try Church Hill Road (although we have not had reports on ITS condition)
A Woodstock Early Bird says it looks as if VTrans may be closing Route 106 FULLY today between Woodstock Village and South Woodstock. She reports a l arge section of road missing on Route 106 in front of the Chester property near to South Woodstock.
We can confirm the ROAD CLOSED sign. Last night, we drove out South Street to 106 and encountered a sign with “Road Closed” squarely centered in the middle of the road although some vehicles were driving around it (presumably to get to their homes!)
I’m not sure we can tell specifically from this road conditions map, but we can try. It’s actually rather amazing as you look at the whole state situation:

Local Bird Notes: A Woodstock attorney reports she just made it to work by hiking a mile and a half to a friend’s car and then getting into town that way.
We also ran into two high school aged young men who had ridden their bike and scooter all the way from Bridgewater to see what was going on here. They reported two houses out on Dailey Road had been washed away and a story of a young couple on their honeymoon stranded in Bridgewater but sheltering with neighbors on higher ground. I’m sure they’ll speak of their unforgettable honeymoon for years to come!
