Tuesday 9am Situation Update: No Power in Parts of Village, No Water

Rep. Alison Clarkson discusses WATER with Town of Woodstock's Dave Green

Woodstock Early Bird has just stopped by the Town Hall for a check of the latest situation. Rep. Alison Clarkson was there with Town of Woodstock Road Crew Manager Dave Green.

Town Manager Phil Swanson was on the phone with someone describing what roads and bridges are out (as per Selectman Preston Bristow’s report from last night here at Early Bird).

Mary and Betty Ann are smiling and cheerfully and patiently explaining to walk-in citizens about the situation…

1. Currently NO POWER in some parts of the village and NO INTERNET.

2. NO WATER in pipes. We are told by Town sources that Woodstock Aqueduct,  which is responsible for our pipes and water,  has computer problems from the flood which are preventing them from re-activating some systems. A computer geek has been called in and is due to arrive today. That is problem #1.  When, or if, the computers are re-configured and salvaged, THEN the problem is finding all the breaks in the water pipelines. This is apparently a VERY old system which has been iffy to being with. West Woodstock, which DOES have water, is fortunate to have the most recent pipelines and system upgrades.

Rep. Alison Clarkson, who lives in the area of Golf Avenue and Maple Streets reports that Woodstock’s Dreer Spring is “saving our ass”. Dreer Spring can be a source of water for anyone in the neighborhood. However, Dreer water MUST BE BOILED before use.

Mark Powers boils water for coffee on his porch

Speaking of boiling water, we found Mark and Patty Powers firing up their propane- fueled BBQ to boil water for coffee this morning. They are using water  from jugs on their porch this morning. They live on the Green and do NOT have power or water.

Again, water sources right now are:

DRINKING WATER — West Woodstock at Union Arena
WATER FOR “INDUSTRIAL” USE — Woodstock Emergency Services Building (The Fire and Police Station)
WATER THAT NEEDS BOILING — Dreer Spring (near the Mt. Peg Trailhead up off Golf Avenue Extension)
