Day Three-Wednesday Morning

Good Morning Early Birds,

Nothing for you yet. But here we are Day Three post Irene. OLD NEWS: NO WATER in Woodstock Village. NEW NEWS: NO WATER in WEST WOODSTOCK.  Power in the Village and an Early Bird on Church Hill reports power restored there last night.

The plan for the day is “digging down” as the cliche goes into the ongoing NO WATER situation.

For information on water distribution and other ways to help out (or get help), we’ll direct you to the new Facebook page created by Woodstock volunteers who are being organized by Rep. Alison Clarkson. It’s called ” Woodstock VT Flood Response”

Volunteers  were out distributing a door-to-door sheet last night with emergency contact information put together by the Ottauquechee Community Partnership, The Woodstock Chamber of Commerce and representatives of Sustainable Woodstock.  It gives information on how to get food, water, clothing  and other supplies if you need them. Basically, call 802-457-2337 if you need help or assistance (and it’s not an emergency — for that call 911).

We understand there is a volunteer effort today (finally, since some Early Birders who  live there have written they need help) to head down to Riverside Park and see if assistance can be given to set things right (or righter).  Again, the Facebook page has info or you can call one of the numbers listed on the emergency sheet that Villagers were given.

More water available and for distribution today.

Now back to the plan of action here at Early Bird Central:

We will be asking if this is going to be a long-haul situation, how can the state (or the military??!) assist us. For those of you not familiar with Ye Olde (our words)  Woodstock Aqueduct pipe system, it’s old. Really, really antiquated. A Woodstock Early Bird wrote to explain it is a patched together system of pipes going back, yikes….I’ll get you the date (Jack Anderson — need a lifeline here?) later. In any case, we’re told  there are or were one or two people who knew the whole system who are no longer with us.

That’s it for now…WEB

While it is absolutely clear that the pressing need right now above all else is for people to get water, please do post if there is anything that can be done by those of us who are out of state. We are following the devestation with heavy hearts and are too far to help physically, but as rebuilding begins, I know there are many who truly want to help Woodstock and the surrounding communities. If there is a relief fund being set up, please post! I may be in NY, but my heart is in Vermont with all of you.

Yes-there will be more water for pick up at the Woodstock Elementary School today and if you need it(or anything else important) delivered, call the 457-2337 number and give them your information. They will get word to our volunteers. We have a few folks with ATV’s that are willing to try and get to people if necessary. Volunteers are meeting at WES throughout the day starting at 9-we are asking everyone to come when they can, but PLEASE come to the school and check in before you go out to help. There are places that have not been inspected and given the “all clear” as yet regarding safety and there are folks who aren’t quite sure what they need just yet. So grab your shovels, gloves and trash bags and come on down to WES whenever you can and you will be redirected to a team where you can help the most. Thanks to everyone. Last but not least-please check in with people wherever you are and help us find out who needs help out there but might not be able to get word out electronically or via phone-even cell phones weren’t working yesterday. Thanks again!

I am in Florida (born & raised in VT) and have box all packed up with baby supplies, new socks & underwear, snacks, etc. Is there somewhere I can send this package so it can be distrubuted to the people who need it most?
