Rep. Alison Clarkson is asking that volunteers ready to get dirty show for duty at 9:30am the Woodstock Elementary School with rakes, shovels, any cleaning equipment and dressed in boots or old, tough clothing.
The plan for those volunteers is to go down to the Riverside Park to help in any way possible with clean-up. Riverside Park suffered severe damage in the flooding. There are people who still have their mobile homes but need assistance mucking out.
As was witnessed at the end of the Community Meeting last night, there are also families from Riverside Park who have NOTHING — their mobile homes were completely destroyed or swept away. One woman gave us all cause to be grateful as she explained that while we might whine about the damage done to our homes — AT LEAST WE HAVE HOMES. This tearful comment really brought home the immediacy of Irene’s path of destruction.
