To Clarify: The Hazens reopened their laundromat completely legally with the okay from the Town of Woodstock. Comments added to this post might lead you to believe otherwise. However, they are community minded and would not have done so if they had not been told it was alright. And frankly, their business provided a much needed service during a difficult time! WEB
From Tambrey Vutech:
GOOD NEWS! The Laundromat is open for business in the village. Owners Terry and Mark Hazen were told to go ahead and open as there are so many who need laundy services asap. (The rest of us should probably continue to conserve wherever possible if you are lucky enough to have your water back).
The Hazens will try to extend hours and be open till 7 or 8 and open 7 days a week! They will also try to have someone available to help do the laundry for individuals who need to get back to other things if necessary.
I told Terry we could find volunteers to help with this as well. Progress-slow but sure.
Also from Woodstock Early Bird and the “Morning Meeting”:
Ottauquechee Motor Lodge on Route Four in West Woodstock MAY have some rooms if you know someone who has nowhere to sleep. They are offering them temporarily for free to those in serious need.

Please, if you are able, continue to refrain from use of our water system. It is great to feel that everything is back to normal, but it we far from being out of the woods yet. In order to get our water system fully operational, the entire systen needs to be recharged- filled up, all the pipes, thousands of gallons. Your neighbors at higher elevations do not have a drop yet. If you can wait on laundry, please do it. If you can get a shower or do laundry at a friends house that has well water, please do it. If you have well water, please reach out to people without water service to offer what you can, whether it be a shower or laundry. If you can, please continue to fill from WES and flush your toilets manually. I have shut off my water service until we get through this so I am not tempted to take the easy route. When Woodstock Aqueduct tells me they have water on Church Hill, the 2nd highest point in their system, (and when the system is considered to be fully operational and recharged), I will turn my service back on and enjoy that glorious hot shower in the morning I so miss! Please help your community and do your own best to preserve our water until we get to that point. I know you will.

I misunderstood the post and ran to the laundromat. We thought (inferred) that the opening of the laundromat was done with the blessing of the water department, etc. (Why else would they ok the opening?). Anyway, we stand corrected and will not use it again until all is well.

Steven, No worries. Sorry to be the heavy. To a certain extent, laundry is essential. To the extent we can refrain, excellent. Impose on friends with well water, even better. Anybody out there with wells that can help us out?

Left our home in Woodstock early this morning, w/o water since Sunday at 4 pm. Our plumber advised turning off the main water valve until service is restored.
I was at the Rte 12 bridge late Sunday afternoon and have some video images of the torrent. In case anyone is interested, I can try to upload them.

We can do some wash for people in need, although you will need to line dry or use laundromat dryers. Will be back in Woodstock after 5 today; email loragw at gmail . Com or call 603 661 1782. We are on rose hill.

Thanks Lora and Chuck for that offer! That’s really great!
I have to ask though are you on Woodstock water? I think Village Trustee Bob Pear is trying to get us to — voluntarily — stay off of Woodstock Aqueduct water until they can get all the lines filled and re-pressurized…That said, I’m sure the Hazen’s weren’t making it up if the Town gave them the okay to open. It’s a really important service and we thank them! A lot of folks are having to work through this time and they need clean clothes! 🙂
