Riverside Park Friday

Riverside Park has seen the most brutal damage in one neighborhood of mobile homes tossed about, flooded through and thrown back down in deep-gullied trenches.

The good news is that the clean-up is underway and Southeast Vermont Community Action (SEVCA)  has a representative on scene now (2pm Friday) at the Park. She will help anyone who needs to find housing or needs help in any way

A table is set up at the entrance to Riverside Park where Woodstock volunteers are standing by to distribute food and drinking water which has been delivered. They are also there to help with filling out forms to help residents qualify for disaster assistance.

Here are some pictures of what’s going on:

I was there yesterday helping out and was really happy to see so many there willing to help out. I used to live in that neighborhood growing up and it really hit “home” to see all my old neighbors in such sorrow! Glad to see and hear they are getting the much needed help! Way to go Upper Valley!!

If anyone would like to offer assistance to Riverside but is unable to be there in person, you may donate to the Flood Relief Fund at Sustainable Woodstock and earmark your donation for Riverside. You can donate online by simply going to the Sustainable Woodstock website: http://www.sustainablewoodstock.org. (Donations are tax deductible.) Sustainable Woodstock informs me that they had been active at Riverside prior to the flood and so are very aware of the needs there now. Anyone at Riverside may apply for a grant from the Flood Relief Fund by visiting the Sustainable Woodstock website and filling out the online application form. It is short and easy, no big deal. They are very responsive. It is early days for their Flood Relief Fund, but they intend to offer short term emergency funding to people as well as longer term financial assistance.
