Volunteer Center Moving to West Woodstock Fire Station

The Woodstock Flood Response Volunteer coordination Center will now be based out of the West Woodstock Fire Station #2…stsrting at 5 today. Guess what? They need volunteers to help move the volunteer station from the Elementary School!

The volunteer station at the new location will be open Sunday if you’d like to help or need help. Very important that we suck up to the paperwork. That means checking in and filling out forms tracking your work. This bureaucracy is just the way it is to qualify for more federal dollars.

    I question this.

The building is right on the edge of the flash flood zone on Route 4 in West Woodstock. If the area floods again, it will cause more stress on the roadways and bear in mind that Route 4 in this area isn’t in such great condition right now.

I’m sure it’ll be fixed properly, but right now, it’s a hasty patch job. It may be temporary but that’s the reality for now.

As for the Station House, I saw first-hand how incredibly busy they were during the height of the evacuations. Do our first responders really need the added pressure of asking people to move their cars so that they can do their jobs?

I realize that the Elementary School wants to get ready for school to open. I understand that the Fire Station is an excellent location for the local Flood Response team.

I’m not convinced that Mother Nature is willing to cooperate or condone this location.
