Water Conservation: Need To Do Better

Village Trustee Bob Pear says we are not out of the woods yet on Woodstock Village and West Woodstock water availability. A simple fire hose at the Elm Street bridge is still part of our compromised Woodstock Aqueduct infrastructure. Our tanks have not been able to be completely refilled due to our current probably increased water use.

We all got excited when the water started to flow but we are being asked to continue to limit our usage if at all possible.

We know. This is really hard for the shower a day crowd or the must have all linens fresh all the times people.

I think there are still many questions surrounding the Woodstock Aqueduct and not a lot of answers forthcoming. It may be flowing, but can anyone provide reassurance that it is free of chemical contaminants? Boiling will not remove chemicals– steam will put ithem in the air. What is the Town’s protocol for water testing, who is in charge of this and where will results and warnings be made available for public review? Can you find any of these answers for us Julie?

Melissa, Thanks for the questions. Maybe we can get some answers in the morning at the 9am morning meeting at the Town Hall or soon from Woodstock Aqueduct. We also need to consider whether or not it is a responsible thing to open schools with a compromised water system.

I agree Julie. I have a child at the high school. There has been little forthcoming from the schools as well — for example, if there is not potable water they can’t feed 600 kids, but do people know to send lunch with their child? On the other hand, I’m sure the routine of school will be good for the kids and teachers/staff can be paid. But I think we need a read on the water situation first and someone knowledgeable to sign off. Keep up the great work, I appreciate your informative and timely posts.

    Hi Julia,
The laundromat is open, but I think this will help.
If you or others in the village who are conserving the aqueduct water need clean laundry, call me and I will connect you with some of your generous neighbors.

I have a list of some folks who have wells and washing machines. They have offered to do laundry for those of us in the village that need some clothes done.
Please, if others can offer the same, have them call me at 457-7057.
    Thanks for all you do,
    Joanne Boyle
