White Cottage Sunday: Looking For Clean Fill, Promising to Recover

Update: The White Cottage is asking for old photos of the classic Ice Cream and take-out food stand. Idea is to compile a “coffee-table” book to sell as a fundraiser. More details as we hear them!

I love this restaurant, and my family has been coming here since I was a little girl, (and that’s a LONG time ago!) I am so glad they’re planning to come back from this disaster. All of us down here in Tennessee send our best wishes to y’all!

Yesterday I spoke with White Cottage owner, John Hurley. He definitely plans to operate in 2012, but won’t be able to do anything for the remainder of 2012.

Oh I sure hope they recover. They were such a big part of my childhood; I can’t imagine the place without them. Good luck with the clean-up!

Man o Man it won’t be the same if they can’t recover. Here’s hoping they can get the place rebuilt. I’ll be in line the first day of next spring for some clams and ice cream.

My hope is that they incorporate the widows watch fence on the new roof to continue the land mark.

When they recover, you can be sure that I will be there having hamburgers.

We are heartsick Californians with a place in Riverside park close by. We can’t imagine all that has happened to our second home. We felt so bad that you had so much damage as you are one of our favorite places. We wish you the best and will take a look when we come the end of September. The best of everything to you.

We love the White Cottage and would terribly miss it. I am so glad John is going to rebuild. We are from California and have lost our little country home in Riverside Park. We worked hard over the past 5 years to get it to be perfect for us. John just gave us another reason to start over…We will not yield and will not let Irene or any thing else kill our dream. We cannot imagine not returning to Vermont. We cannot be back until 9-28 and support the good people of Vermont. I wish I could be there to help right now but I am still working.
