Oh dear, the cats are a bit all over the place apparently since Hurricane Irene came through.
We’ve had another report of a stray cat found about three miles up Hartland Hill Road from Woodstock just over the Hartland line.
Joann Ecker is caring for this very nervous kitty who won’t come near her except to enjoy some food, but is sure kitty wants to go home.
Is it yours? Contact: earlybirdtips@yahoo.com and we’ll try to get you in touch with Joann

This is Superintendent Alice Thomason Worth wishing to share some of the recent communications to WCSU officials and administrators from my office. I will post several. I understand Woodstock folks are anxious for information regarding the start up of our schools and hope these communications are informative. Please understand that your Board members and Administrators have worked tirelessly with staff to ensure the smoothest opening given the circumstances. Communication to us from parents and community members is that students are anxious to get back to some semblance of normalcy and to reunite with their peers after a long summer. Teachers and staff at all WCSU buildings have done a tremendous job preparing. I never imagined starting my tenure at WCSU under such challenging circumstances but feel lucky to be working in such a strong, supportive community. Folks in the trenches, in all areas of the work, have done a tremendous job. On this Labor Day 2011, I give thanks to all the workers out there who have been diligent in working our way through this.
Best,
Alice

Dear Board Members and Principals: I made my way through the VTrans bureaucracy this afternoon and just connected with Susan Clark, from VTrans Incident Command Center in Dummerston. She was wonderful…articulate, clear and supportive. She assured me that VTrans will have a 2 lane road open from Killington to Woodstock on Tuesday. This will be passable by school bus and I have contacted Emo to alert him. “This will be a rocky road…not the beautiful Rt 4 we were used to but certainly middle school and high school kids can handle it” noted Susan. The trick now is to work out a way for the Killington kids to get to Rt4 to meet a bus and Emo will figure out a meeting place that is conducive for bus pick-up. Killington Board members and Loren will be in further communications links so we can work together to make this happen. I did ask Susan if we should wait until Wednesday to bring the K kids in…thinking they may need to be sure this roadway would work and she said no (which I think is great as we would want the K kids to start up with their peers if at all possible without creating an unsafe situation). The only thing that might change their goal is if we get heavy rains this weekend…she and I will talk Monday AM to be sure all is ready to go.
Hope you all can have a nice weekend…I’m heading home.
Best,
Alice

Hi Alice,
We appreciate your hard work as you continue your career here in Woodstock!
Nonetheless, there are public health issues concerning water that go beyond the boundaries of the school — usage, conservation, safety, non-potability, etc.
We do want to hear from the Vermont Department of Health directly that opening schools on Tuesday will not be in any way jeopardizing the community’s public health.
