The Water Today: Pressure Drop Explained

Village Trustee Bob Pear has been on the phone with Woodstock Aqueduct. Here is his Saturday morning report. “Water Boy”  loves all the details. If you do, too, then get ready to dig in!

Unfortunately, Woodstock Early Bird’s beady  little eyes start to glaze over when we start discussing 1″ mains and 8″ mains. However, we understand the import of such descriptions and stand corrected that it was NOT a water main per se that caused Friday afternoon’s outage, although that was what was originally reported to us by “officials.”  Frankly, we still aren’t sure what a “water service” is…but we’ll re-post if needed….

The low pressure some people experienced yesterday evening was just a matter of recharging system and not the Aqueduct purposely lowering the pressure on the system.

The break was not actually a water main, but a commercial sized water service, 1″ as opposed to 3/4″, (who knew 1/4″ could make such a difference).

Tank update is that we are maintaining level at 93% capacity- Eric is still recommending moderate consumption as opposed to conservation since the schools are off line over the weekend.

We didn’t establish a definition of moderate consumption other than use common sense. What one person can still conserve will be what another person may need to use for clean up, so don’t be careless. This will particularly help those that need to get a final cleanup done in their basements or other parts of their house that were flooded before those molds start to grow.

Do your essential laundry, run your dishwasher, take a short shower instead of the sailor’s shower, water your flowers that need it but not your grass, you get the idea. But forget about washing your car!
