Fire Chief/Fire Warden Sutherland Lifts Burn Ban in Woodstock

A burn ban for Woodstock has been lifted, giving the green light for permitted burning of  natural flood debris.

Town Manager Phil Swanson says Woodstock residents still need to get a burn permit from the Emergency Services building.

You will  be asked to read and sign a statement reviewing what is and is not allowable to burn.

Also, while the burn ban has been lifted, it may also be re-imposed even on days which you might think it’s okay to burn. For example, Swanson says a rainy day might seem like the perfect time to get rid of debris. However, it may not be perfect due to the likelihood of smoke hanging low in the air and affecting overall Village air quality.

Swanson reports that Fire Chief L.D.  Sutherland, Jr. who also happens to be the Fire Warden  consulted with Environmental Protection Agency and State of Vermont air quality officials before giving the green light to light.  With permits.

Coupla’ notes on lighting and burning. Daytime only. Water  hose nearby recommended. Your burn MUST be ATTENDED at all times.

Good luck and good burn.
