Vail Field Still Off Limits

Woodstock officials report this morning that soil testing of Vail Field has returned some “mixed” results. For that reason, further testing will be done and a mitigation plan is being prepared.  Officials say there are some isolated “hot spots” that need tending  and some heavy equipment work that needs to be done to get the fields back into ship-shape for Woodstock Recreation programs.

We’ll keep you posted. For the time being, the entire Vail Field area including buildings and playground will remain roped off.

Julia, any idea where to view those results. Our yard- behind Vail- is pretty bad and am concerned about my kids playing in the yard.

The results are not publically posted anywhere unless the Town of Woodstock is posting them. But I don’t think so as they actually wanted some further interpretation of results…I’m not sure what was revealed or not revealed and it was just in certain spots not the entire field. So they just want to make sure there’s nothing to harm a kid before letting them back on. But, if you want to pursue it certainly give Town Manager Phil Swanson a call.

I think you will probably have to run your own soil tests on your side of the Kedron Brook. One place may have stuff that another place doesn’t….. There is a company out of Perkinsville that I believe will do them for free if you say they are Irene. I don’t think it makes sense to base your kid’s health on what went on the other side of the bank…Also there’s a lot of wild rumors about what is and isn’t in the soil. Frankly, use real science so you know for sure! 🙂

Thanks Julia. Your information has been incredibly helpful during these crazy rimes. Ocelli call Phil and if he doesn’t have info will research Perkensville company. No- I will mor base my kids health on Vail Field… but was here wading through oil, water and whatever else. Vail field and Maple Street share the same brook. What’s there is here. As always, thanks for the info.
