Cannon Fire

With much amusement Woodstock Early Bird sees her readers have made an important correction to this post.  It was “cannons” or “cannon” going off in the Village not “canons” ….See comments! WEB

Yes. Canons going off in the Village. A Revolutionary War reenactment behind the Historical Society on Elm Street. Do not be alarmed. Tell that to the dogs!

Dear Julia: Canons are songs of earlier times usually; sung in a very particular fashion -chorale like. It would be a delight to have canons going off in town:-)

But, I suppose the Civil war reenactors are actually shooting off cannons.
    Oh well….

Or, perhaps they were church canons, getting overexcited about some obscure ecclesiastical point.

I highly recommend ‘The Western Canon’ by Harold Bloom.

Have always been a fan of Pachebel’s Canon… Woodstock Early Bird originally had “cannon” and for some reason all that came to mind was a brand of fine towel, so we went back to “canon” and now realize why it just didn’t seem quite right. You’d never know that WEB was, at one time, a classical music radio host who knew the difference between a “canon” and a “cannon”! Thanks for keeping us on the straight and narrow!
