Car Break-In Defendant Pleads Not Guilty, Held on $5000 Bail

The Windsor County State’s Attorney has informed victims of  a spree of summer car break-ins in Woodstock that the defendant,  Richard Hurd,  did finally appear in court, pled not guilty and was held on $5,000 bail and conditions of release.

In the letter sent to victims, Hurd is shown as having been charged with one count of burglary and five counts of petit larceny.

In addition to bail, conditions are that Hurd provide his address and phone number and stay away from his alleged victims — some 21 people —  having no contact with them in any way.

He has also been specifically told to have no  contact directly, via email or even  through third parties with  — and not abuse or harass — two other male individuals whose names Woodstock Early Bird will not publish at this time.

Other conditions include not buying, having or using prescription drugs without a valid prescription.

Finally, Hurd’s conditions of release —  until an October 11th hearing —  include staying off property anywhere on High Street, Golf Avenue, the Village Green, Church Street Extension, River Street, Atwood Avenue and Rose Hill. He has also been told to stay away from the Quechee Condos parking lot and off of Barnard-Stage Road properties.

Judge Patricia Zimmerman signed the  order that imposes a curfew on Hurd. He is required to be in his residence from 9pm at night to 6am in the morning and is not  allowed to buy, have or use firearms or dangerous/deadly weapons.
