Police Report Un-Locked Home Thefts

Several Woodstock Early Birds sent along a suggestion that we take care in locking our homes (and cars) after thefts from unlocked homes in the past week or so.

Woodstock Police reported the break-in referenced  below  on Sept. 20th on their Twitter feed.  Local Woodstock realtor Laird Bradley sent this note around to his friends and clients  and it has come to us from several Woodstock Early Birds, so we share it with you in the spirit of his “please make friends aware of this issue.”  The message is simple: Lock up. Don’t make it any easier for vandals. Yes, this is NOT our Vermont way, but it is our current reality:

We are advising residents about recent burglaries in and around Woodstock that have occurred at unlocked homes during daylight hours. Apparently, locked homes have not been targeted.

Gretchjen Smith was among those robbed mid-day last week and she lives in a highly visible location across from the U-U Church in the Village, but others in more isolated areas have also been victims. In her case the objects were jewelry, an iPad and a couple of other small ‘tech’ items. She, like most of us, doesn’t bother locking her doors, except at night…until now.

We are all…myself included…inclined to assume we live in Never, Ever Land…we don’t.

Take care and be safe.

Please make your friends aware of the issue.
