Vail Field: Not Dangerous, Cleared for Clean-Up and Use

Good news from the State of Vermont and the Town of Woodstock this morning…Vail Field soils have been cleared as “not dangerous” according to Town Manager Phil Swanson for use by the general public following the flooding of the town property by the Kedron Brook on August 28th.  The Town had soil samples taken from various locations which did show the presence of some heavy metals and other questionable “volatile organic compounds” or VOC’s. The Town sent on the data to the State of Vermont for further clarification. This is part of the email that was sent to Woodstock  from Wendy Walsh with the State of Vermont:

“The concentrations of heavy metals and VOC’s provided by the report were compared to guidance concentrations provided by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation’s Site Management Section. Based on the limited information in the report available for review, and assuming that the VOC and heavy metal concentrations provided in the report are representative of the overall site conditions, it does not appear that routine exposure to surface soil or deposited flood sediment at this site would be associated with an increase in the level of concern for public health.”

The Village  of Woodstock has also put out an invitation to bid for the Vail Field Clean-Up:
