Woodstock Early Bird attended this morning’s Flood Response Update meeting and we have very little new to report (which, all things considered, is a good thing). Here’s what we have:
1. River Street will be open to all traffic this weekend. Signs posting it as closed will be taken down.
2. Frost Mills Parking Area should be open “noonish” today according to Woodstock Roads Manager Dave Green.
3. Woodstock Aqueduct is still working on our water line. Green says yesterday there was some work with regard to removal of concrete. Village Trustee Bob Peark, our former “Water Boy”, said the process for getting fully back up-to-speed includes planned installation of a new pump and then getting all the electronics in order.
4. Vail Field Clean-Up Bid deadline is today. The Village Trustees will be presented with the bids (approximately six contractors are expected to be competing for the work) and make a decision on which one to go with at their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night at 7pm. (Town Manager Phil Swanson notes that — rather incredibly — FEMA monies ARE available for cleaning up silt at that site but federal monies to repair roads and culverts are not available yet as they are still held up in Washington. )

5. A note related to our recently dearly departed Volunteer Coordinator Hasse Halley: We hear that this lady was “all about food” and feeding people in so many ways — continually, doggedly, stressing the importance of asking for Food Shelf donations in the Post-Irene Aftermath. As one small way of celebrating her memory, teachers were emailed a note this week suggesting those who attend her memorial at Woodstock Union High School on Sunday bring, yes, FOOD. Canned foods and non-perishable food as a donation to the Food Shelf in her memory. The Hasse Halley Memorial get-together is scheduled for 2pm Sunday at the WUHS gym.

Considering Riverside Mobile Home Park was one of the hardest hit communities in the area, updates seem to be few and far between. Why? We may be “out of sight” and “out of mind” but we are still in a disaster zone. Perhaps since there are “no dog and pony shows” scheduled for the Riverside Mobile Home Park area I guess there is nothing worth reporting.
Riverside Mobile Home Park is not located on the “Green” in downtown Woodstock but there are more families represented in the Mobile Home Park than represented by the houses situated on the “Green” in the Village. The residents of Riverside Mobile Home Park will not be forgotten. Pamela Burnett, Riverside Mobile Home Park, Woodstock, Vermont.

Pamela,
Thank you for writing. We certainly want to keep up with your recovery. One reason for fewere updates is that most of them were coming from Rep. Alison Clarkson who has been out of town for a week or so helping her own parents get ready for winter.
Very much want to know what is and is not happening for you at Riverside Mobile Home Park. So, let us know what is still needed and what is being taken care of.
You’re not forgotten. However, Woodstock Early Bird generally just posts when there is something NEW to report. For example, we know that some private groups and banks are working to get some major funding to assist with recovery at Riverside Mobile Home Park. We have spoken with a principal organizer of that effort but will not report anything on that until the ink is dry and the funds a sure thing. Be assured there are people working very much behind the scenes on your behalf.
Again, let us know what you think is NEWSworthy other than yes, it’s going to be a long recovery for residents of the mobile home park.
