Columbus Day Weekend has turned out to be a perfect weekend to get hitched. Ask Kara and Andrew of Northampton, Massachusetts who came to town to exchange their vows (shown in photo on Saturday)
Without fail, throughout the years, but mostly in the Fall, applications for Woodstock wedding licenses pick up on weekends. Town Clerk Jay Morgan says it’s like clockwork: Every Friday afternoon around 3:30 or so…a couple of people who have picked-up eachother for life come in to register for a marriage license. The number of marriage licenses issued shows up every year in the Town of Woodstock Annual Report. Here’s what it’s been like so far for 2011:
Number of Marriage Licenses Issued in by Town of Woodstock in 2011 so far:
January – 2
February -5
March – 11 (Mud Season makes hearts grow fonder!? )
April – 3
May – 6
June -12
July – 4
August – 13
September – 18 to 20
October – To Be Announced!
Of note…the majority of marriage license applicants are from out of state. And yes, Woodstock, Vermont’s Town Clerk has provided marriage licenses to same-sex as well as not-same-sex couples.
Woodstock Early Bird wishes them all great hope and happiness. No, we don’t cry at weddings. But there’s nothing like a good wedding reception! A toast to them all. But, please, don’t show up at the Town Hall at 4:55pm. It takes about 45 minutes to get all the paperwork squared away according to Town Clerk Morgan.
