BLOGS AND BOOKS GO HAND AND HAND…
The West Hartford Library Needs Help!
Reading is fundamental for our understanding of the world. It begins with kids and parents, teachers and hopefully some early trips to a place of wonder known as the library. In Vermont’s smaller communities the library can be as important as the General Store as a place to gather, as a place to read, write, gain access to the internet and yes, even do a bit of – we hope – QUIET socialization. You know it! Woodstock Early Bird would have made an excellent old-time librarian. SSSHHH!
When such a place for reading, learning and understanding is hurt, we need to help it back to good health. And so, we present to you this information provided by Woodstock’s Countryman Press which is taking part in a fundraiser for the West Hartford Library. Countryman Press, as you may know, has quietly worked its beautiful book magic at the base of the old Mt. Tom Ski Hill and recently moved to West Woodstock. Countryman’s Director, Kermit Hummel, is also a Woodstock volunteer EMT who WEB has seen far too much of late in nasty weather and conditions.
In any case, Countryman Press is providing a beautiful coffee-table book of photos called Soul of Vermont at the event. So here you go. The press release:
Nearly 2 months have passed since the floods of Irene devastated the building and collection of the public library in West Hartford. Now more than ever the Library relies on the monetary generosity of citizens in order to reopen and remain the vital resource center and meeting place it has always been for the community.
Come to the Norwich Bookstore and help save the Library:
October 23rd • 2 – 4 PM
at The Norwich Bookstore
291 Main Street, Norwich, VT
• The Bookstore will donate 10% of storewide sales that day to the library.
