The Town of Woodstock Selectboard last night approved allocating $500 from its contingency fund to help fill local candy barrel coffers for community use on Halloween Night.
In a quick meeting that lasted just 25 minutes, there was little discussion about the candy funding decision. It follows on the heels of the Village Trustees decision last week to approve $500 for Halloween candy from their contingency fund.
In order to assist residents along streets closed off for Halloween by the Village, Halloween candy collection barrels have been placed at three locations: Mac’s Grocery Store, The Town Hall and the Emergency Services Building. The hope is that residents from all over will do what they can to make candy contributions to assist those helping to make the evening fun on Maple Street, Golf Avenue and High Street. Neighborhood coordinators plan to distribute the candy several days before Halloween so if you’ve been hemming and hawing, next trip to the store…if you feel so disposed…throw in another bag or two of your fave candy. Neighborhood coordinators are using an online sign-up sheet for those who believe they’ll need candy and those who don’t. Corwin and Priscilla on Cross Street will be collecting Food Shelf contributions outside their home on Halloween Night.
Now…time to get those costumes put together! We also know of at least one, if not two, families who would appreciate a “porch sitter” so they can take their kids around as a family.
