The Candy Has Landed

Riley Delivers Candy

We’ve got a whole bunch of mixed metaphors going through our not-yet-candy-addled mind about next Monday’s evening’s trick-or-treat festivities.   Among them, the idea that Halloween this year has taken on the  aura of “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” except in this case it was the potential for being “The Irene Who Stole Halloween.”   And now, we can assure you, “There will be a Halloween.”

Thanks to private donations deposited in candy bins all over town and $500 apiece  from our Village Trustees and Town Selectboard PLUS a $500 ANONYMOUS candy  donation, the candy has landed.

Yesterday, Woodstock Early Bird  was personally delighted to come home to  find a pile ‘o treats on her front porch. These have been placed in a high place not reachable by even winged-sweet-tooths to be distributed next Monday night to ghosts, goblins, witches, and others who say “Trick-or Treat.”

And we can’t let it go that earlier we had detected a young man, a Mr. Chynoweth, who was literally living the life of RILEY, found in the back of a van surrounded by candy.  He was helping to deliver to folks on High Street, Golf Avenue and Maple Street. He was assisted by Maple Street Moms, Leanne and Ann, who were worried that not everyone in the neighborhood knew that candy was available.

They want to let everyone in the community know that if you would like to have some treats to give to the kids on Halloween night — and were not part of the online sign-up,  there will be one more distribution this week.

The Maple Street Moms were  holding back some candy from yesterday’s delivery to  give away to homeowners on Wednesday afternoon. Show up at  Ann Jones garage and they’ll get you all set up.

Thanks everyone!  Have a safe and fun Halloween.

So, does $1500 worth of candy cover it, or are donations still requested? If so, until when are they being accepted? Thanks to the town and secret goblin, and all you intrepid residents for hosting us again!

There was never an aim to “cover everything” vis a vis candy — The contributions are just meant to assist neighbors who might otherwise have turned out the lights and not participated. It appears that the kids should get plenty of booty.

    Hi Julia. —

My daughter came he from high school today saying Halloween in Woodstock was happening on Sunday night instead of Monday night. Is there any truth to this rumor or are we on for Monday? I have a Minnie Mouse who is game for the festivities!

    Thanks,
    Melissa
