This Saturday Woodstock residents can participate in a program designed by the DEA’s “Office of Diversion Control” to collect old, expired or unused prescription medications from the nation’s medicine cabinets, drawers, shoes, purses.
Woodstock’s Police Department is offering safe disposal of pills and capsules (only) via a collection point at the Emergency Services Building this Saturday, October 29th from 10am-2pm. Bring your VILE!
The program is called “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day” and addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. More than 7M Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Each day, approximately 2,500 teens use prescriptions drugs to get high for the first time according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Studies who that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.
