Operation Pumpkin

20111030-083427.jpg

Operation Pumpkin is underway. The Woodstock Historical Society has generously donated the pre-carved pumpkins used at last nights Spooky Halloween event to the good people of the High Street, Golf Avenue and Maple Street neighborhood.

The re-purposed (?) pumpkins are free for the taking to help “garnish” the porches in anticipation of Village-sanctioned Trick-Or-Treating on Monday night. Come and get a pumpkin for you or your neighbor if you don’t have one. Thanks Woodstock Historical Society (and all the hard-working carver/artists)! Woodstock Early Bird did the pick-up and the pumpkins now available for pick-up at 17 High Street:

The Historical Society just concluded its Halloween event, “Spooky Woodstock” at 9:30 tonight.

At 26 Elm Street, there are several carved pumpkins in two locations….These are pretty cool jack-o-lanterns

Please let the homeowners on High Street, Maple Street and Golf Avenue – Halloween Heaven – know that they are welcome to any and all of these orange emblems of Halloween. Just brush off the snow, and away you go. They should be fine for Monday evening’s gala.

We hope they can be recycled. Thanks!

This is all really very nice. I applaud the folks in the Maple Street and Mountain Avenue neighborhood for all they do for the children and for their hospitality on Halloween and I mean that in all sincerity. But, we do have to note that there are other village neighborhoods that similarly enjoy visits from throngs of witches and goblins. I think all the residents of the village should be recognized for that hospitality.

Correction: “Maple Street and High Street neighborhoods.

Pat…and the Village of Woodstock…I’m sure the Village Trustees would be happy to entertain a move to have another neighborhood provide a safe “host” site for Halloween next year.

THIS year, the effort is aimed at trying to gussy up THIS neighborhood since it has been designated by Village Trustees as a place they would like police to set up road barricades. It is a much-appreciated effort, I can say as a resident who has been part of the de facto “hosting” for many years.

Now, all that said, The Woodstock Historical Society has informed Woodstock Early Bird that there are 16 to 20 pumpkins FOR THE TAKING by any member of Woodstock Village that are still located somewhere BEHIND the Woodstock Historical Society building. Free free, they say, to take one and enjoy it. These are not carved but still colorful. If folks don’t take them they will be compost soon. Anyone from any neighborhood is welcome to have one!

Didn’t write the comment to seek a bag of candy or a pumpkin, just to note that notwithstanding the directives of the trustees and the constabulary, the children will be ALL OVER the village as they always have been. And as always, the residents on other streets will do what they have always done…light their pumpkins and dish out treats.
