Paul Hendler, 39, pleaded innocent Monday in U.S. District Court in Burlington to 11 counts, including wire fraud, interstate transportation of stolen money and engaging in monetary transactions involving more than $10,000 of criminally derived property. He was released on conditions pending trial.
A federal grand jury indicted Hendler in September. If convicted, Hendler could face up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines. Prosecutors are also seeking to seize property in Woodstock he allegedly bought with misappropriated funds.
Prosecutors said Hendler diverted company money for his own use at JavaPop Inc., a beverage company that he founded but that was run by a board of directors, and that he defrauded a would-be investor in the company of $140,000.
Hendler is also charged with submitting fraudulent expense reports to Green Mountain Digital, another company he helped found.
