WUHS Jazz Bands to Perform with Local Professional Musicians!
Woodstock Union HS Jazz Band students are preparing an evening of great music for a public concert on November 13th, at 7:30 PM, to be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, in downtown Woodstock.
The concert will feature three bands: Jazz Combo One and Two from WUHS, and an ensemble of local professional musicians featuring Fred Haas and Michael Zsoldos, saxophones; Draa Hobbs, guitar; Bob Merrill, piano; Jared Henderson, bass; and Tim Gilmore, drums. The program for the evening will include music by jazz greats Art Blakey, Wes Montgomery, Theolonius Monk and modern day jazz artists from New York and New Orleans.
The objective of the concert is to feature the work of talented students while establishing a mentoring opportunity with professional performers from the region. Band Director Jody Henderson is happy to report that the WUHS Jazz Bands have been working hard by rehearsing before school and performing for school events. Now they look forward to a genuine “gig” where they will perform in the company of serious, and generous professional musicians, in a venue which loves to support music.
Admission for the concert will be by donation and applied to facilitating continued experiences between student musicians and professional mentors.
For more information on the concert or how to support the WUHS Bands contact Jody Henderson at 802-457-1317 ext 117.
