Police Chase Ends in Bridgewater Suspect Suicide

Vermont State Police have issued a press release about a high-speed police chase yesterday that began with a suspected theft at Killington and led to the reported death by suicide of the suspect in Bridgewater (Technically the chase ended in Woodstock although the access to Larry Curtis Road is in Bridgewater). VSP says the incident is still under investigation and the body is under the care of the medical examiner.

 SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

 On 11-20-11 at approximately 0033 hours Killington Constable Montgomery was

investigating the possible theft of gasoline from the Green Mountain National

Golf Course in Killington. Upon arrival Constable Montgomery observed an older

model Cadillac leave the area. Constable Montgomery attempted to stop the

vehicle at which time a pursuit was initiated and the vehicle fled south on VT

Route 100 towards the town of Pittsfield.

Troopers from the Rutland Barracks responded to the area and Constable

Montgomery lost sight of the vehicle. While patrolling the area the vehicle was

observed heading south on VT Route 100 towards the town of Killington. State

Police attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle continued south on VT Route 100, east onto US Route 4, then into the

town of Killington. The vehicle continued east on US Route 4 at a high rate of

speed. Troopers lost sight of the vehicle in the town of Bridgewater.

While patrolling the area a Trooper observed the vehicle parked behind the

Bridgewater Mill. The Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle at which time he

fled onto Larry Curtis Road in the town of Bridgewater.

During the pursuit the vehicle continued down Larry Curtis road coming to a dead

end. The vehicle then stopped and the lone male operator took his life by

shooting himself in the head.

Detectives from the Rutland Barracks were called to investigate the untimely

death.
