Occupy Wall Street @Tribou Park December 4th

UPDATE: Originally this post went out with the wrong date…The correct date is Sunday, December 4th @ 1pm – WEB

Woodstock Early Bird has learned that local activists interested in expressing solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement will be holding their own “sit-in” or “occupy” event at Tribou Park on Sunday, December 4th.  This is the triangular piece of land where Pleasant Street and Central Streets intersect in Woodstock Village.

Local supporters of the 99%  are asking everyone who supports the questioning of an economic system that creates a wider and wider gap between rich and poor to come out for a peaceful demonstration.

On a related note, Shiretown Books in Woodstock will be holding a discussion group about the “Occupy Wall Street” movement at the store on Central Street at 3pm on Sunday, December 4th.

We’ll have more information/details  for you from organizers  closer to the weekend of these two events.

For the time being, here is a portion of an email sent to WEB about the “Occupy Woodstock” event:

The goal is to demonstrate our solidarity with the global “occupy” movement. Please join us, tell others. Make signs, posters.

Occupy Wall Street is leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants.  This #ows movement empowers real people to create real change from the bottom up. We want to see a general assembly in every backyard, on every street corner because we don’t need Wall Street and we don’t need politicians to build a better society.
