Hopping to It at New Beer, Cheese and Video Store

A well-known, long-time “liquor store” beverage  location on Route 4 East in Woodstock now has a new name:  Woodstock Hops N’ Barley.

Formerly the home of Woodstock Beverage, the new beer/video shop is owned by Greg and Linda Markwell, whose son, Matt, is the General Manager.  The Markwells owned the Showcase Video next door  for a couple of years, but have moved the video inventory into their  new beverage and cheese  shop.

They are hopeful the two products (videos and drinks…snacks, too)  will compliment each other in the same space. Matt, who worked for years at Pizza Chef, is now busy building up his inventory of craft beers at the new store. Some varieties are already on the shelves, including what is to be the  shop’s signature beer, the 64-oz “Growler” (Matt’s brainchild). Some wines and domestic beers are also available.

As for the old Showcase Video space, Zoning Administrator Michael Brands said a permit for a hair salon has been  approved for that location, although no tendrils  of hairy life evident yet at that location.
