For anyone who isn’t at Wassail Festivities and able to look up from the Village Green at Mt. Tom, our reporters on the scene and in the field inform us that the Mt. Tom holiday star has been lit!
Some Woodstock Early Birds were wondering why the Star hadn’t been lit up earlier this December as they remembered it having been lit in the past. We figured the electric lights on the year-round star at the top of Mt. Tom would surely be lit for Wassail Festivities. And they are.
The lights are a lovely seasonal beacon to Woodstock as one drives into town along Route 4, Route 12 and Route 106. Something about lights at the top of the mountain, a greeting on a cold winter night in the middle of our “wilderness” that tells us we are home.

Julia,
Could we see a picture of the star on Mt. Tom? What did Wassailing look like?? We love Woodstock and Vermont and just lost our place in Riverside Park during “Irene”, but we live in California. We are always so glad when you show pictures of what you are writing about. We love your blog.
Merry Christmas.

We’ll get one for you soon. Hard to capture the star from a distance unless you have a telephoto lens which we don’t. But perhaps a Woodstock Early Bird will find a way to send us a good shot! WEB
