Operation Warm: Coats For Kids At St. James Church Today

We’ve just gotten a note from the folks at Operation Warm (Betsy Caldwell)  that this afternoon at St. James Church in Woodstock (1:30-4:00pm) the group will be giving away warm coats for kids (Sizes approximately kindergarten through 5th grade).

If you know anyone who might benefit from this program, let them know or take them over to the Church for a look-see. Here’s more about the program from a press release sent out by the Newton School in South Strafford and Operation Warm:

On Wednesday, December 28th, after the holidays, Operation Warm Inc., in partnership with The Newton School, South Strafford, VT and St. James Episcopal Church, Woodstock, VT will distribute new winter coats to 750 school children in need.

Operation Warm’s goal is to distribute  new winter coats to children in Rutland, Orange and Windsor communities in Vermont whose families have been hit hard not only by the economy, but also by recent devastation due to the late summer flooding of Hurricane Irene. Operation Warm will serve a total of at least 200,000 children across the country this year.

“As an organization committed to our community, St. James Episcopal Church is pleased to be a part of this nationwide initiative. The timing couldn’t be better,” said Betsey Caldwell, a teacher at The Newton School (in South Strafford), and a member of St. James Episcopal Church. “Many families in our area are having to choose which basic necessities they can afford, often putting adequate winter clothing at the end of the list. Children and their families who are in need will significantly benefit from this program.”

Operation Warm is the only organization in the country that manufactures and distributes new winter coats to children in need. The coats come in various sizes to fit kindergarten through fifth grade students.
