Things are Looking Up for 2012: White Cottage Has Walls

The White Cottage Snack Bar is On the Mend/ Photo by Christine Orcutt

We know that despite all the celebratin’  everyone has their own trials and tribulations as they exit one year and enter another. So here at Woodstock Early Bird Central we’d like you to know that at least one thing is looking good as we begin 2012:

The White Cottage Snack Bar decimated by August 29th  Irene  flood waters is on the mend.

Just this last week the infamous ice cream stand in West Woodstock  got a set of new walls!

What this portends is ice-cream, hot dogs, hamburgers and secret WEB reader  Jon-Jon’s fave fried clams when Spring rolls around.

See? You were kinda’ coming close to being down in the dumps, weren’t you,  as you saw millions of people around the world celebrating and you weren’t sure why?

So,  the buzzword these days is “gratitude” and we, here at WEB Central,  are pretty much “down”  with gratitude in whatever form we can find it.  Or “up”  with gratitude as in “Up With People”.   Which is not to say that buzzwords — when overused —  don’t drive us crazy. However, we are very grateful  to see the White Cottage on the mend.

Happy New Year to You All!

See you in the spring at the White Cottage Snack Bar!

I’m not sure that the word “infamous” describes the White Cottage Snack Bar correctly.
It has been in business for a long time and is a well known landmark in West Woodstock. I’m sure that by next summer it will satisfy many hungry locals and tourists who travel Route 4. The new branch bank across the street is also a welcome sight to those who used it in the past. With the Farmers Market back in business this short stretch of commercial properties is coming back to life once again. Now if the Vermont Standard Building gets razed soon, this stretch of humanity will look like Tropical Storm Irene never happened in West Woodstock. I just don’t want to see unsecured propane tanks stored next to the river ever again. We should have learned from the 1973 flood.

Moreover, the White Cottage seems to be acquiring a Second Floor! I’m dying to know whether this addition is destined to be storage space, administrative office space, an upstairs kitchen, or maybe even a “fine dining” level. (Imagine arriving at the top of the stairs and being asked “Do you have a reservation?”)

Dave, as we reported before (I believe) the second floor will provide more space for storage which the former White Cottage didn’t have. Sorry, but have no heard any plans for an upstairs dining area! 😉

I was out of town for a few days and was so happy to come home to see walls going up on the White Cottage! My husband and I go there on summertime “date nights” for cheeseburgers. Can hardly wait!
